CTA Member Benefit of the Week
If you have anthem blue cross, there will be some changes in medications being covered starting January 1st. This is not because of anthem. It is because of express scrips so it would have happened with Health Net as well. Attached is a list of medications that will no longer e available. It has alternative medications listed next to each one. Hopefully this will at least give you and your doctor a couple months to make changes if necessary. Kaiser has no changes to coverage at this time since they cover medications in house.

There are a few things we want to let all members know as we are about to be back to school…
The first day back (Thursday, August 22) will start at your school site. After lunch at12:30, it is a part of our work day to attend the benefits fair at the PAC on OPMS campus. This is not just about health benefits. There will be reps from both medical companies to answer questions, but there will also be vendors who offer discounts and deals to teachers. They will have banks, car insurance, cell phone companies, etc. There will also be CTA reps to let members know what benefits they can take advantage of through CTA. Hopefully members can find some cost saving options.
****Right after the benefits fair, we will have a quick membership meeting in the PAW right next door on RHS campus at 3:00. This will be an update on what we have done over the summer as well as an update on plans for this year. We will be introducing the different committees as well as the negotiating team. We will have information on upcoming elections and dues along with our communications plan to ensure all members are informed. We want to respect your time so we are hoping to have you out in 30 minutes or less, but have reps from each committee stay after for specific questions.
As you all know we have had a rough year this last year. The results of that will continue throughout this next year. There has been a riff between RTA leadership and the district leadership. Many members expressed concerns that they didn’t know who to believe at times since both sides were so far apart and contradictory. In an effort to add some accountability and transparency for our members, we discussed having more joint communications sent out. After round-table meetings with RTA, CSEA, and Admin reps, we plan to send out a summary of the meeting. This will hopefully eliminate some of the he-said/she-said. With this in mind, you will be receiving the first joint e-mail in the next week. This is an effort on both sides to start working together and keeping the lines of communication open. We understand that there will still be apprehension on both sides (as there should be after the year we have had), but are hopeful we can make some positive changes in the upcoming year.
Hope to see you all in the PAW Thursday at 3:00 for the membership meeting.
